Jordan to mark World Tourism Day

Source: Jordan Times, AmmanSept.迷你倉 27--AMMAN -- World Tourism Day, which is annually celebrated on September 27, will be marked this year under the theme "Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future".According to the World Tourism Organisation, the theme was selected in support of UN International Year of Water Cooperation to highlight tourism's role in water access and shine a spotlight on actions currently being taken by the sector to contribute to a more sustainable water future, as well as the challenges ahead.In a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Thursday, Tourism Minister Nidal Katamine said the availability of water resources supports the industry's facilities, including hotels and restaurants, but called for reducing water consumption.He added that in Jordan, the annual water share is 148 cubic metres per capita, which is under the water poverty line that stands at 1,000 cubic metres per儲存倉capita.According to the minister, the agriculture sector uses the largest share of water with 62.4 per cent, followed by domestic use with 32.4 per cent.The industrial sector consumes 4.4 per cent while the tourism sector only consumes 0.8 per cent.According to figures posted on the Tourism Ministry's website, 91,230 tourists visited the Kingdom in the first quarter of 2013, reflecting a 13 per cent drop from the same period last year.In 2012, 6.3 million tourists visited Jordan -- a drop from 6.8 million in 2011 and 8.1 million visitors in 2010, according to a Department of Statistics statement issued on the occasion of World Tourism Day.This drop in the number of tourists, according to the statement, is due to the current regional turmoil.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) Visit the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) at .jordantimes.com Distributed by MCT Information Services迷你倉最平
