Food bank gets 80,000-pound hot dog donation

Source: Star-News, Wilmington, N.迷你倉C.Aug. 29--The Wilmington branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina was a flurry of activity Thursday morning as volunteers worked to unload 80,000 pounds of hot dogs.Smithfield and Food Lion partnered together to make the donation to the food bank as part of Smithfield's "Helping Hungry Homes" program.Smithfield spokesman Dennis Pittman said Food Lion reached out to them to specifically request to food drop in Wilmington. A Port City resident himself, Pittman said it meant a lot to help his own community."There's certainly a need in this area," he said. "We're helping people close to home who really need it."Food Lion has been a major donor to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for a while, giving more than 50 million pounds of food in the last five years to the文件倉organization."We're in the food business, so what better way to give back than to food charities," said Jimmy Jones, the company's director of operations in Wilmington.Jeff Rose, the Wilmington branch director of the food bank, said this donation will trickle down through the branch's network of 95 agencies and feed thousands in the community."This makes a huge difference for them," he said.
